In the late 1960s/early 1970s, Hale was no doubt one of the most prominent Democratic politicians in the country. In 1972, House Majority Leader Hale Boggs boarded a flight from Anchorage to Juneau to campaign for his fellow Democrats. The twin-engine Cessna 310 vanished due to bad weather during a campaign trip to Alaska. The wreckage was never found, and men's conspiracy theorists believe Boggs was eliminated because he publicly challenged the one-gun theory of the Kennedy assassination.
