Our Fists Have Constantly Evolved for Punching

Interestingly, the evolution of our faces to withstand punches suggests that the part of our body used for delivering punches, our hands, would have also undergone changes. A recent study on anatomical changes in humans suggests that as we began to walk upright, our hands evolved to become short and square with opposable thumbs. While this change was initially attributed to tool manipulation, further research indicates that the ability to form a fist was an evolutionary adaptation to improve our ability to deliver punches during fights.
