Sweetin's worked in a number of independent films since Full House, including Port City and Redefining Love. Famously, she battled drug and alcohol addiction throughout the decade after the show's conclusion, which had set her on a destructive course.

Her career for the most part on hold, she was in and out of 12-step programs and rehab throughout her late teens and 20s while battling drug and alcohol abuse. On Jan. 17, 2022, Sweetin announced she was engaged to boyfriend Mescal Wasilewski, days before her 40th birthday.
